fresh eggs

Four dozen fresh brown eggs delivered to my door for $8 makes me happy :)

See all the beautiful colors and shapes and speckles?

I love when they have little feather bits still clinging to the shell.

Just look at that color!

Yeah, I know you are all laughing at me ;)

anyone want a 3 year old?

Just kidding, sort of. Today is taking it's toll on me. This morning I painted the ceiling in the playroom. I had to stop every couple minutes to referee the kids. Then Eric woke up and took over while I took the girls to Home Depot and picked out their playroom wall colors. They were a little impatient in the shopping cart, but that went pretty well. When we got home I made some grilled cheese and green beans for lunch and then painted the inside of the playroom closet. I realized I needed more orange paint so Emily and I ran back to Home Depot before Eric took the car for the day. I come back to find Anika had wet her pants.

Eric left for work and I got started on the walls. The girls were playing nicely in the kitchen and I was on a roll.

I heard a suspicious noise and went to see what they were up to. Cereal everywhere... I grab the vacuum and go to it. After a couple minutes I realize Anika is out of sight.

She was helping me paint and got some on her pants and hand, which she wiped on her shirt. I cleaned up the paint and the cereal, got the girls settled, with a scoop of ice cream each, in the back yard.

I rush the rest of the painting and come out to find that Anika was watering the rocks and they were both very wet.

I left the paint stuff soaking in the sink and got the girls clean and dry and we played with chalk for awhile.

I go back to the sink and start rinsing, and rinsing, and rinsing the paint out of the roller and brush. Behind me, Anika decides she wants milk and between her and Emily somehow half a gallon of milk spills all over the kitchen floor.

Between all of the contents of the playroom being in my living room, all the extra laundry from the kids adventures, and all the painting supplies my house is trashed and I am exhausted. Now it's time to feed them dinner and (with any luck) get them in bed early so I can get the second coat on those walls.

stuff

We took our recent move as an opportunity to declutter. Before we left Germany we sold, donated, or gave to friends all of our 220v appliances, lots of toys and clothes, and some extra kitchen gadgets. We felt pretty proud of ourselves when it only took the movers 6 hours to pack and load up our entire house full of stuff.

Now that we are finishing up the unpacking we can't figure out why we brought all of this with us. The movers helped us declutter a bit more by "losing" a box, breaking the desk, and breaking a couple toys and decorations. As we try to fit things into our closets we have weeded out several duvet covers and sheets. I donated a couple more pots and pans, some clothes that I haven't worn in so long I can't remember, and a hideous clown that our landlady had given us so we had kept as long as we lived in her house. A Mexican family pulled up in a van and asked if we were selling anything so they got our king sized bed that we were planning to haul to the dump as well as the infant car seat, the double stroller, the umbrella stroller, and a couple nightstands.

We did purchase a washer and dryer, a vacuum, and lots of storage containers. I picked up a new toaster, still in it's box, from a yard sale website and we just spent a bit of money on a file cabinet and storage containers for our garage. I know plastic boxes aren't the best, but it feels so good to be organized.

our eventful move

Well, since I last posted a blog we have dealt with airplane delays, missed connections, baby vomiting in the airport and on the plane, a very sleepy and sick Christmas, a night in the ER with a very sick Emily, an ear infection for Anika, a too short visit with family, and then a long day of travel to get to New Mexico. We've been here in lodging at Holloman AFB for over 2 weeks now. The sun is wonderful, but there has been enough rain and snow to remind us that it is still January.

We are in the process of buying a home. It's a new 3 bedroom house that we are very excited about. Just a few more weeks and we can move in! I cannot wait to get all of our stuff unpacked so we can start to feel like we are home.

Our car is finally in the US and should be back in our possession in a week or so. Last time we checked it was at a port in Georgia. Then it goes to Texas and Eric will pick it up there and drive the 12 hours home. Until then we are getting our exercise walking everywhere. I've lost about 15 pounds since we have left Germany and while I am enjoying my new size I really need to stop losing.

Eric is settling in at work. There have been lots of appointments keeping him busy, but he got to launch his new plane today so I guess everything is coming along with him learning about the new aircraft.
